Mike Tyson was one of the most feared and brutal boxers to ever step into the ring, but his origins come from humble beginnings on the streets of Brooklyn. Long before he knocked out opponents in seconds to become the youngest heavyweight champion in history, Tyson was just a bullied kid looking for a way to defend himself.
In October 2012, Tyson launched the Mike Tyson Cares Foundation. The mission of the Mike Tyson Cares Foundation is to “give kids a fighting chance” with innovative centers that provide for the comprehensive needs of kids from broken homes.
One day I went into this neighborhood in Crown Heights and I robbed a house with this older guy. We found $2,200 in cash, and he cut me in for $600. So I went to a pet store and bought a hundred bucks’ worth of birds. They put them in a crate for me, and the owner helped me get them on the subway. When I got off, I had somebody from my neighborhood help me drag the crate to the condemned building where I was hiding my pigeons. But this guy went and told some kids that I had all these birds. So a guy named Gary Flowers and some friends of his came and started to rob me. My mother saw them messing with the birds and told me, and I ran out into the street and confronted them. They saw me coming and stopped grabbing the birds, but this guy Gary still had one of them under his coat.

Murray said that when Tyson first came to see her for therapy, he did not cry at all. But as time went on, they were able to talk about issues from his past. Sometimes, she said, he would spend the session sobbing.
During an interview with Graham Behich, which is available on YouTube, he said, “I just thought it was a cool tattoo. I was going to get a bunch of hearts and stuff. That would have been really stupid. I was going to be the man of hearts, baby. I was very close. Victor Perez, the tattoo artist, said, I ain’t doing that. I can’t do that. I said, ‘what do you think I should get?’ Because I was confused. Victor Perez is a good guy and said, ‘come back in a couple of days. I’m going to try and write up some stuff.’ I waited around, and two days later, he called and said, ‘Mike, I’ve got some tribal stuff.’ I said, ‘Woah, put another one over there.’ I was like, ‘this is cool; I like this.’ So he did it.”
According to the book Fire and Fear: The Inside Story of Mike Tyson, Tyson admitted that he punched Givens and stated, “that was the best punch I’ve ever thrown in my entire life.” Tyson claimed that the book was “filled with inaccuracies.” Tyson and Givens had no children, but she reported having had a miscarriage; Tyson claimed that she was never pregnant and only used that to get him to marry her. During their marriage, the couple lived in a mansion in Bernardsville, New Jersey.
Perhaps Mike Tyson’s most notable tattoo, the one that covers the left side of his face, requires the first explanation. Mike Tyson has Maori tribal art that covers one half of his face, but he originally wanted his whole face to be covered in tattoos.
In addition to his athletic career, Ashe is remembered for his social activities. Arthur was a fighter for the rights of African Americans, which most likely caused Tyson to sympathize with him. Ashe also founded the Foundation for the Prevention of AIDS, which he was infected with, calling it “Days of Grace.” It is this inscription that sits above his portrait on Mike’s shoulder.

Alan Dershowitz, acting as Tyson’s counsel, filed an appeal urging error of law in the Court’s exclusion of evidence of the victim’s past sexual conduct (known as the Rape Shield Law; Dershowtiz alleged that Washington had “falsely accused one of her high school classmates of rape”), the exclusion of three potential defense witnesses, and the lack of jury instructions on honest and reasonable mistake of fact. The Indiana Court of Appeals ruled against Tyson in a 2–1 vote. The Indiana Supreme Court let the lower court opinion stand due to a 2–2 split in its review. The tie vote was due to the fact that the Chief Justice, Randall T. Shepard, recused himself from the case. The Chief Justice later revealed he did so because of a heated argument between his wife and Dershowitz at a Yale Law School reunion concerning the case. On March 26, 1992, Tyson was sentenced to six years in prison along with four years of probation. He was assigned to the Indiana Youth Center (now the Plainfield Correctional Facility) in April 1992, and he was released site in yahoo.com March 1995 after serving less than three years of the sentence. He left with prison tattoos of tennis player Arthur Ashe and Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong; Tyson also dates his tattoo of Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara to this time.
